Is it possible to provide light using the LCD screen so that energy consumption is minimal?
There was an article in the summary Reader describes how a Swiss couple light conditions in a remote village in the Himalayas by the donations LCD lights 12-volt battery and a bicycle generator
You're probably thinking of LED (?). LEDs consume very little power, usually at low voltages. Originally LEDs were expensive, dull, and came in colors limited. Major changes are underway. The intensity is growing by leaps and bounds, numerous color and IR are available and are cheap! Current applications include lights marker and brake vehicles, flashlights and LED indicators for almost everything. The next big step, already underway, will be the virtual elimination of incandescent bulbs including vehicle headlights, with LED. It seems that the LED will take over almost all the lighting in the future, not the distance, until another source is present. (Vapor lamps may be an exception.)
