It's an USB charging cable iPAQ too tired or need adapter?

I just took my old iPAQ swap and has not been used in recent years. Battery seems to be too tired and fashionable now to the computer via USB cradle … It seems that nothing happens. Do I really need the AC adapter or must be recharged via USB (which means that the iPAQ has just died)?
